A Toy Story Engagement

My sister celebrated her 23rd birthday Toy Story style, this weekend. She created an adorable birthday banner as part of the decor, and my cousin made these amazingly delicious alien cupcakes. Mr. and Mrs. Potato Head stood at each side of the cupcake stand to guard the cupcakes. Too bad we didn't have any water guns, I think some toy weapons would have made it more official. You know, the little green aliens have always been my favorite Toy Story characters so seeing them (and tasting them) in cupcake form was awesome! Definitely one of my favorite party elements! The night ended with an entertaining Toy Story Trivia Game, in which contestants had to yell "foof" before answering a question because there were no buzzards or whistles available. A contestant from the looser team had to take a shot of tequila (or milk, depending on their age) each time the opponent team answered a question correctly. Needless to say, the team with the kindergarten teachers and children won the trivia game. They were happy, but we (the losers) were BUZZing AND happy. Whoo-hoo! ~ The best part of all was when her boyfriend sat her down to open her gifts. As she opened a gift from him, he got down on one knee and proposed. The gift was an engraved photo frame that read "She said...YES! June 18, 2010" ~ Awww...what a great night! Congratulations Cynthia and Tim! This is just the beginning of your story. "To infinity and beyond!"

Same Sex in the City Wedding Expo, held at The Parker, Palm Springs

I've had an eventful couple of weeks. I've been busy, busy creating a variety of custom orders for clients, but in the middle of it all, I made a little to time to showcase my work at the Same Sex in the City Wedding Expo held at The Parker, Palm Springs, this past Sunday, September 7th.

The show was put together by GBK productions and Rrivre Works. It was absolutely stunning! Unfortunately, I didn't have a chance to take any pictures at the event but you can get a glimpse of the day by watching this two minute video on KESQ.com.

I shared a booth with my friends from Red Lantern Photography, which was a lot of fun! I met a lot of nice people at the event, potential clients and vendors alike. It was by far the best show I've ever attended. It was very well put together, great turn-out, took place in a gorgeous setting and it was great to know that our presence and participation in the show meant a lot to many of our guests.

Live Entertainment..."Out of the Blue"

I met up last night with my friend Joanne (62+ going on 30), who I met years back, when I worked in the Marketing department at the Spa Resort Casino (SRC).

We both love Vino 100 in Cathedral City, which is where we met for a wine tasting and live entertaiment. What a great time I had! It was like a mini SRC Reunion!

It turns out that three of my former co-workers started a band a few years back to participate in the Annual SRC Talent Show, "just for fun."

Four years later and "Out of the Blue" this band continues to perform, now with more experience under their belt, more sound, more songs, and more gigs, providing more fun and a great atmosphere! I am completely impressed!

If you are having a celebration in the Palm Springs desert area, or simply looking for GREAT "live" background music, you have to check out "Out of the Blue."

4th Annual Bridal Expo at Morongo

We were out all day on Sunday, exhibiting at the 4th Annual Bridal Expo at Morongo Casino Resort and Spa which is organized by Kiss the Bride Productions. The show went very well. It was held at a great location, there was a fashion show, door prizes, contests, and I had an opportunity to meet with several couples as well as wedding planners and florists!

Below are a few picutures of my table display. I have several new designs that I haven't had a chance to photograph for my website, so I was glad to have had the opportunity to showcase them at the bridal expo. The images below are not the best quality, they were taken with my camera phone.

The brown invitation with the orange ribbon and round buckle to the left above, as well as the green square invitation below, were one of the most popular ones at the show!

The 3x3 handcrafted gift enclosures below (to the left) were a big hit! Don't be surprised if you start seeing them around town, being sold at local Palm Springs and other desert cities flower shops!

Thinking Outside the "Pocket"

As I mentioned a few blog entries ago, I will be hosting a mixer for the Greater Palm Springs Wedding Association in a couple of weeks. The mixers are a way for local vendors to meet and mingle, and an opportunity for the host to showcase a location and/or work.

I never had the opportunity to host a GPSWA mixer, because I work out of my home based studio. It wasn't until recently, when one of my aunts purchased an hacienda style home, which she intends to market as a vacation rental and reception site for special events. She offered me full use of it, as a way to give her newly acquired property a bit of exposure, and give me a place to showcase my work for an evening.

The GPSWA mixers are open for all members, and to vendors who are interested in joining the association. But because there are many members I haven't seen attend a mixer in a while, I designed and eye-catching invitation that will hopefully spark their interest and will entice them to make an appearance.

The invitation consists of a combination of velvet, embossed, and traditional ivory and khaki colored paper, neatly layered, and accentuated with rhinestones. I included 3 separate inserts, a map, a note with admission rates for members and non-members, and my business card. These three items were secured with gold cord, placed behind the invitation, and everything was mailed in sparkly gold envelopes.

I agree that pocket invitations are beautiful, but this is just another example of how we can further customize an invitation by applying the budget toward textured paper and embellishements, rather than pockets.

Below are a few images of Casa Del Sol, the place where the mixer will be held at. These are only temporary images, a new photo shoot will take place in the coming weeks, to fully illustratate the home's features.

We're on a Mission

Things seem to slow down for everyone during the month August. My mother and sisters all work for the Palm Springs Unified School District, and school's out for the summer (at their schools at least), and well...August is also my slowest month of the year, so I had a chance join them on a little trip that my mom organized to the Mission at San Juan Capistrano. Unfortunately, my husband had to work Friday evening, so he stayed home, but I took many cool pictures to share with him...and you =)

Lots of beautiful flowers and religious images.

Me, my daughter Andria, nephew Damian, sister Melina, and sister Cynthia. Melina is going through the credential program to become a grade school teacher and Cynthia will be transferring to Northridge next year to become a Sign Language teacher. Andria and Damian mean trouble! Hee, hee. (I'll delete this before they're old enough to read)

We had a great time! I would love to go back and attend some of the envents listed on their website, such as concerts, arts and crafts for children, art exhibits and the mariachi festival.
